About Us

Founded by Bill McDonough,a native Bostonian and former social studies teacher, Boston Private Tours recognised the fact that there are many tour-bus and "trolley-tour" operators in Boston...but they generally stick to a small geographically limited, section of Boston Proper, and  we could'nt help but notice that these cumbersome vehicles are not legal on many of the quaint and historic narrow streets of Boston .Even on streets where buses' are legal, their size makes the side streets inacessible and so  your tour is really restricted to commercial roadways' and you don't get to see the really charming neighborhoods and sites. In essence, bus tours are very limited in scope ,but the average visitor never realises how much they are missing..

Tell us what you like,  what you want to see, and we'll  tailor-make a customised tour for you!

Many times a small group, say two couples, will have different interests...the women might wish to go shopping or visit art galleries or museums...the men may want to visit historic sites or take in a ballgame at fabled Fenway Park. We'll coordinate pick-up of both parties and take you back to your hotel,or to a great or an interesting restaurant afterwards. You make the decisions!
